What is the Catalogue of the Plants of Cuba?

The Catalogue of the Plants of Cuba is a continuously updated reference work developed by the Cuban Plant Specialist Group as a taxonomic standard to support the correct identification, management, and conservation of Cuba’s plants. Its purpose is to compile all scientific names reported for Cuba, determine the accepted name of each taxon, and specify its status as native, endemic, naturalized, cultivated, or excluded. In addition to taxonomic and nomenclatural information, the Catalogue standardizes plant growth forms, documents their distribution across Cuban territories and outside the country, records the vegetation formations inhabited by native and naturalized taxa, and organizes plants according to current phylogenetic classification systems. It is based on reviews of the literature, herbarium collections, specimen databases, and the knowledge of specialists in the different plant groups. In its second edition, the work comprises 382 chapters, including 359 inventories of vascular and non-vascular plant families, the floras of the 15 provinces and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, and three inventories devoted to cultivated plants and plant genetic resources. The edition also publishes 13 nomenclatural novelties in nine families.
